Gosmore for Maemo

Gosmore is an offline viewer of Open Street Map XML data. It is made by Nic Roets.

The current version is the subversion snapshot from 2008-12-28. I am working on packaging a snapshot from 2010-02-14.

Version 20100214

This version offers new upstream improvements:

• New UI.
• Improved Search.
• Drag to move and rotate the map.
• 3D view.
• Routing and Navigation (not tested).

Dowloads: gosmore_20100214-1_armel.deb and gosmore_20100214-1.tar.gz.

Note that this is work in progress. For example routing has not been tested yet.

Notes

• This package contains a small example map. You iprobably have to get or create one yourself. See Gosmore home page.

• The map format of gosmore sometimes changes. It is best to generate fresh maps for every release. I create mine by building gosmore on a Linux box and then following the procedure from the gosmore homepage.

• The Maemo application searches at startup for a map named "gosmore.pak". First it checks the current directory, then in ~/.gosmore and last in the resource directory: /usr/share/gosmore.

• All development and testing is done under Maemo SDK 4.1.2. The application has been tested on a N800 running OS2008 version 5.2008.43-7.

Gosmore for maemo is now avaliable from the extras repository. Visit the Maemo page to install it or use this link .

• Hildonized (HildonProgram, HildonWindow, .desktop and .service files).
• Added menu (fullscreen, show/hide options, close).
• support Fullscreen key.
• support Zoom keys.
• support Up/Down/Left/Right keys from D-pad.
• Look for map file (gosmore.pak) in /usr/share/gosmore or ~/.gosmore/.
• Register the application with osso to prevent being killed after 2 minutes.
• Start GPSD automatically using libgpsbt.
• Added small example map of the city of Schiedam (NL).
• Show center of map when started.
